Ego as anything...

Apparently Sigmund Freud stated that a religious experience was defined by our own ego meeting another much larger than itself.

Thats all for now, I just thought it was quite good.

I dont hate him... I just question his theory that states that mankind summed up in two basic instincts (to have sex and to kill), when it comes from a bloke who lived through two world wars and had sex with his patiens. That doest strike me as being entirely objective.

He was also aparently influenced by Darwin, who's own theory seems to me to be poorly substantiated and still controversial a century and a half later (most evolutionsists dont even believe Darwin, the theory having itself evolved a great deal since his day).

Building a psychology based on these shifting sands is hardly a firm foundation.

From what I can gather, Freuds real use was the mapping of the mind (the id, ego etc.), which is what Im reffering to here.
